Hospital Dentistry by Dentulu

Dental Consultation, Teledentistry and Follow-Up Coordination for Hospitals

When patients arrive with dental problems, your clinicians need more than a referral list. Dentulu works with hospitals to design dental consultation and follow-up coordination around your workflow.

Dental problems reach hospitals every day

Emergency departments are built to stabilize, but most do not have a dentist on shift. Patients with tooth pain or dental infection are often treated for symptoms and told to find a dentist, without a clear next step.

An estimated annual average of 1,944,000 U.S. emergency department visits involved tooth disorders, about 1.4% of all ED visits.
Data period: 2020–2022; published June 2025. CDC, NCHS Data Brief 531
Median hospital cost of a treat-and-release ED visit for adults 18–64: $158 for nontraumatic and $292 for traumatic dental conditions.

Three ways Dentulu supports your hospital

Emergency department dental consultation

Give ED clinicians access to a dentist's input on dental complaints, with a defined route to follow-up care. Remote evaluation has limits, and your clinicians stay responsible for screening, stabilization and discharge.

Emergency department dental consultation

Teledentistry for hospital patients

Remote dental assessment and clinician-to-dentist collaboration for ED, inpatient and post-discharge needs, with clear guidance on when in-person care is required.

Discharge follow-up coordination

Help patients leave with a route to dental care, including referral to dental offices and specialists where available.

How a hospital program comes together

  1. 1

Discovery. We learn where dental needs show up in your hospital and what your teams need.

  2. 2

Coverage assessment. We confirm what Dentulu can provide at your facilities, including licensing and service area.

  3. 3

Workflow design. Your clinical leaders and ours agree who starts a consultation, how escalation works and who owns follow-up.

  4. 4

Pilot. A defined pilot with agreed measures, so you can judge the program on your own data.

The exact steps, responsibilities and documentation follow your agreement with Dentulu.

How a program works

Built around your clinicians' responsibilities

Your hospital keeps responsibility for screening, stabilization, transfer and discharge decisions. A Dentulu consultation adds dental expertise to that process; it does not replace it. Patients with airway concerns, rapidly spreading swelling, uncontrolled bleeding or serious facial trauma need immediate emergency care.

Clinical quality and safety

Measured as a pilot, not promised as a result

We do not promise reductions in ED visits, length of stay or cost. We help you set up a pilot that measures consultation use, time to consult, referral completion and follow-up access, so the decision to expand rests on your results.
